Just because I haven't posted in a few weeks does not mean that I haven't been busy! Quite the opposite actually. I have been swamped with work for school and orders for The Muffin Top. This is extremely exciting, but overwhelming at the same time!

I made this cute football cake for my friend, Missy's, little boy, Blake. He turned 4 and is an avid Aggie and Cowboy fan. I wont judge where this little man's team alliance has come from since Missy's husband doesn't judge us for our obsession with Twilight. I was told recently that we should be referred to as Twihards.... I wont disagree.

Ok, so apparently the new trend for announcing the gender of your baby is to throw a "Gender Party." If you don't know what that is you must be living under a rock (you're under there with me, so don't feel any shame). This was actually a really fun cake to do, but a little weighty at the same time. The way these parties work is to have the ultrasound technician call the baker (me) to reveal the gender of the baby....to only me. Once I have the gender of the kiddo under wraps I will then dye the cake either blue or pink, so that when the mom-to-be cuts into the cake she reveals whether she will be expecting a little "sugar and spice and everything nice" or "boogers and snails and puppy dog tails" (I forgot how that one goes, so I just made up an alternate...it works though, right?). Pretty fun party, huh? I think I am going to have to throw one of these whenever I get to become an aunt! (hint, hint...hurry up please, dear sisters!)

Gender parties! That's a funny one. I suppose any excuse to have a party is a valid one. :) Lovely cakes! I think they totally catch the spirit of the occasions!

Hello Haley,

Thanks for the tips on the macarons but I just realized mine seem a little..'raw-ish' inside. like theyre soft and minorly translucent. And I baked them waaayy longer than required. help?

Except that when the time comes, it would so not be fair for the Baker aka Haley to know before everyone else. Terrible idea!!

Vickys- I'm not really sure what to recommend, but here are a few suggestions. (1)Be sure to let your egg whites sit out overnight or at least for several hours to allow all of the extra water to evaporate from the white. (2) Don't over-beat your mixture. Gently fold the mix together until the peaks slowly begin to disappear when you do a peak test. (3) try venting your oven in the last 5-10 minutes of baking. Just place a wooden spoon in the door of the oven to allow air to slightly flow into the oven. This will help your macs to rise more. I don't know if that will help at all, but that's all I've got. My macs are far from where I would like them, so let me know what you figure out!
